Former academic and experienced teacher based in Maidenhead, offering on-site or remote teaching.
I am a mathematics PhD and former academic returning to teaching after a successful career in financial services. I offer tuition in both Mathematics and Latin. My mathematical background includes studying both pure and applied mathematics at Cambridge, followed by obtaining a PhD in applied mathematics and conducting two years of postdoctoral research at Oxford. My research, which has been published in five peer-reviewed papers, focused on differential and integral equations as well as fluid dynamics. Throughout my academic career, I tutored extensively in mathematics at all levels up to undergraduate, primarily through university arrangements but also privately. While working in financial services, I continued informal tutoring by helping friends' children with A-levels and university exams, as well as teaching my own children. I have successfully tutored two of my children in Latin (a subject not offered at their school) up to GCSE/AS-level. My teaching approach emphasizes developing a deep understanding of fundamental concepts. I have found that students who grasp these foundations are better equipped to tackle complex problems with confidence and success. In teaching Latin, I emphasize the importance of mastering grammar and vocabulary while understanding the language's underlying structure. Drawing on my knowledge of modern Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish), I help students see how Latin's legacy lives on, facilitating connections that enhance comprehension and retention. In mathematics, I focus on applied maths at the degree level or anything at the A-level. For Latin, I can teach anything up to A-level. I typically prefer to work remotely but can consider alternatives, including using my own premises where I have a dedicated room for teaching.

Fun, interactive mathematics lessons for students eager to progress!
Hi, I think I would be a great fit as a mathematics tutor. I was also in your child's position years ago but ended up sitting my GCSE maths exam a year early (y10) because I prepared myself from an early age. My role as a tutor would be to make questions less intimidating for the student. By getting past that initial intimidation the student will then be able to tackle the questions head-on. I like to make lessons fun and interactive whilst incorporating “pop quizzes” and homework to make sure the students are always ready and engaging. I am currently a student at Middlesex University, studying interior architecture and have a strong background in both 11+ sats and GCSEs. I charge £30 an hour and have a wide range of availability. Hope to hear from you soon, best wishes. Kezia

(University of Cambridge, Mathematics) Online Mathematics Tutor
I’ve tutored countless students (well over the 50 mark) from all ranges: Year 7 to Bachelor- level inclusively - though the majority being A level, this is probably my favourite. I also have experience in preparing candidates for Oxbridge interviews and STEP and MAT exams. Most recently in Cambridge while at university, I used the FirstTutors website. My profile, which also includes very positive feedback from students, can be found here: Even now during the academic holidays, I have two students, one of which I tutor online. I’d really look forward to having more I encourage the use of WhatsApp between students and tutors, especially in the run-up to exams; I feel like this really helps. I genuinely care about my students doing well. I make myself approachable and friendly, and I encourage my students to feel comfortable asking me questions and voicing their concerns. I’ve maintained good relationships with all of my students/parents and can provide many references on request.

Highly Successful GCSE Maths Tutor
I am a qualified Maths teacher currently lecturing in GCSE Maths and Aeronautical Engineering, with degrees in both Aerospace Engineering and Teaching. I am becoming very popular with ONLINE students; I have invested in all the specialist equipment necessary to deliver tuition online. I of course also offer traditional face to face tuition. Tutees tend to fall into the following 3 categories: - needing advanced help to reach full potential and achieve grade 7/8/9, - predicted a borderline pass or fail at school and needing help to secure a pass, - failed at first attempt and needing assistance with a retake. I have a proven track record with all of the above and have a huge stock of examining body approved resources and worksheets specific to individual topics in the syllabus. My teaching experience consists of many years spent teaching Maths as a college lecturer and personal tutor. November 2018 Foundation results: Grade 4 (foundation paper) ONLINE Grade 4 (foundation paper) Summer 2018 results: Grade 7 Grade 7 Grade 6 Grade 6 Grade 5 Grade 5 Grade 4 (foundation paper) Summer 2017 results: A* (still taking old style GCSE) Grade 8 Grade 5 Grade 4 (Foundation Paper) Tutoring Approach My usual approach for preparing a student to score as highly as possible in GCSE exams is to work together in attempting past paper after past paper. Doing this not only gets the student very familiar and experienced with what to expect in the exam but also flags up areas of weakness. These areas are then worked on specifically until full competence is shown. This means a typical lesson is made up of half general past paper, and half specific topic. Being a current serving GCSE Maths teacher, I have a wealth of up to date resources and curriculum/exam knowledge allowing me to focus tuition on exactly what is required to maximise results.
