I have been teaching for well over 20 years now and hold a breadth of knowledge in teaching GCSE, KS3-5, Functional Skills Level 1 & 2, as well as A’ Level English Language and Literature. Throughout my teaching journey, I have had the privilege to work with diverse groups of students, including those from varying backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities. I also have a breadth of experience in teaching. Collaboration and communication are fundamental parts of any teaching philosophy for me. It is this partnership between a student, parent, and colleague that creates a supportive environment for any student to grow. I like to be interactive and ensure that parents are informed of how their child’s progression can actively support their academic journey. As an enthusiast in learning myself, I like to improve on my personal development and ensure that I am always in line with current educational strategies. Exposure to students from various cultures and ethnic backgrounds has allowed me to become tailored in my teaching strategies, enabling me to accommodate the individual needs of students while helping them feel the growth in their learning. I firmly believe in differentiation and in being able to challenge students at various levels to encourage them to achieve their optimal potential in learning. Furthermore, I am a firm believer in critical thinking skills, creativity, and the development of ethics, diversity, and inclusion within the classroom. Real-life examples and interactive activities are always embedded in my teaching practice. My previous work history has allowed me to understand ethics and morals both pastorally and academically, ensuring the growth and development of a student within the academic world.

Over the last twenty years, I have gained significant classroom and management experience at several State, Grammar, and Independent Schools. Although I have been out of the classroom environment recently, I continue to keep up to date with Education Policy and support students away from the school environment via home tutoring. I am an experienced teacher with a passion for my subject and a great desire that all pupils across the ability range are inspired by Science. There is no greater job satisfaction for me than when that inspiration leads to students excelling in examinations or pursuing a career in medicine. As Head of Biology at Kingston Grammar School, I managed a team of four experienced teachers, as well as being actively involved in the overall management of the Science department. I was successful in improving both A-Level and GCSE results year-on-year. I was responsible for coordinating Community Service placements for students in the wider community. I also worked closely with Brunel University with their PGCE program and was part of a team inspected by OFSTED where I was awarded 'outstanding' in my mentoring work with PGCE students at Kingston Grammar. While my teaching specialism is Biology, I have also taught Chemistry and Physics at Key Stages Three, Four, and A Level. I have a broad knowledge of the science curriculum and how it fits into schools' academic policies and wider educational policies. Additionally, I have a good understanding of the International Baccalaureate programs and Vocational courses. I have written schemes of work and working policies for a department, as well as full risk assessments for practical work. Furthermore, I have experience with admitting new students to a school, whether it be a state school or an 11+ or Common Entrance at 13+. I have administered 11+ and 13+ examinations, as well as being part of a team of interviewers assessing a student's suitability for the school.

Thanks for reading my profile. I have a great deal of experience in both learning and teaching math, and a passion to do so. I have taught for ten years in a variety of schools/colleges. Before that, I tutored several students, from GCSE to university level, while still a student myself. I have a great interest in mathematics and in the art and science of teaching and learning. I strive to be the best teacher I can be so that I can help others learn and enjoy math. At present, I offer tutoring services, edit the math magazine SYMmetryplus, support adult numeracy classes, and am developing free online math resources. A recent graduate with a 2.1 BA (Hons) in Drama and English Literature from The University of Birmingham, I am a passionate person who endeavours to enthuse young people to flourish both academically and personally. While at university, I sought out a voluntary position in the Education department at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, in order to engage with outreach learning in the leisure industry. I have also assisted with a theatre group while at sixth form college, tutoring secondary school students in singing techniques and holding warmups at the beginning of rehearsals. Most recently, I have worked within two secondary schools as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the English department, providing support across KS3 and KS4, both within a large class and with small groups. In addition, I also became involved in providing support for SEN students and effectively dealing with pastoral issues, due to my empathetic and sensitive demeanour.
