Native, fully qualified, friendly French tutor with 30 years of experience.
UPDATE: I currently teach online using Skype, Facetime, WhatsApp, and Google Docs.
Bonjour!
I am a qualified, native French teacher who has been living in the UK since 1993. I gained a PGCE from the University of Portsmouth in the summer of 1994. I started teaching in a school in September 1994. I have taught French to students from Year 7 to Year 13 at Brooke Weston CTC in Corby and at Southfields School for Girls in Kettering. Additionally, I have taught German to GCSE level at both of these schools. I began teaching privately in 1998.
I have been a French examiner since 1998, so I am very aware of the skills and knowledge required by examination boards. Currently, I am a team leader for French GCSE and an examiner for A2. Being an examiner gives me valuable insight into the requirements of Ofqual and examination boards, and I believe I do an excellent job preparing candidates for their French exams.
I have taught a wide range of students over the years, including KS3, GCSE, and A-Level students, adult learners, younger children, and adults in a business environment. What I enjoy most is seeing students make significant improvements and gain confidence in their French from the moment they start to understand how the language works. I am a good communicator and always strive to understand students' learning styles and difficulties so we can work on them and make progress once the foundations are in place.
I am dedicated, hardworking, and well-organized, and I enjoy seeing my students excel and regain confidence. I plan all my lessons methodically and provide all necessary materials to my students. I also assign homework, which I believe is crucial for their progress.
Regarding my experience, I have been working as a private tutor since September 1998 and thoroughly enjoy every moment of it. I aim to help all my students improve their French proficiency, confidence, and ability to express themselves spontaneously in French. I incorporate French culture into my lessons whenever possible, as I believe it is essential to language learning.
I have experience teaching students of all ages, from 7 to 77 and beyond. I have particular expertise in preparing students for French GCSE and A-Level exams due to my 25 years of experience as an examiner, moderator, and team leader for various examination boards.
My qualifications include a B.A. in English with French as a Foreign Language from the University of Nancy 2 (now called the University of Lorraine) in 1993 and a PGCE in Modern Languages (French and German) from the University of Portsmouth in 1995. Additionally, I have a DBS check from March 2017, which is automatically renewed online each year.
