I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have taught students in the Primary and Secondary education sector, and young people and adults studying in the Further and Higher Education Sector. I have a PhD from the University of East Anglia and an MA and BA from Birkbeck, University of London. I also have a certificate in Art and Design. I am a published academic author and I have presented papers at conferences across the UK. I can teach a range of subjects including English Language and English Literature, History of Art, Film and Media Studies, History and Politics. I have particular expertise in teaching students that have been excluded from mainstream education, including young people in foster care and residential care homes, and people with special educational needs and behavioural problems. My teaching style is very relaxed, and I ensure that I give students plenty of time and opportunity to ask questions and develop a teaching method that suits their personal learning style. I am a great believer and practitioner of Socratic teaching methods, which have been particularly suitable for the students I have taught.

Hi everyone, I have been teaching English vocabulary and pronunciation and providing IELTS practice and advice for 11 years. Check out my website (link icon below) for the full details. I teach students whose first language is not English. My aim is to ensure all my students can grow their understanding of English vocabulary. They are then able to increase the number of English words and phrases they use. They are more able to understand the meaning of English words and phrases. In addition, students can improve their pronunciation in a professional British way. Finally, our students learn about UK culture through the themes of each lesson we have. Our lesson topics often focus on areas such as leisure, travel, university and ideas found in the UK. Our lessons are taken online with a tutor or by yourself through our self-study courses. Our online tutor lessons are 1 hour in length and are taken on Google Meet or Zoom. In these lessons, we take you through several words and phrases, explaining the meaning, helping you pronounce them and providing you with an example. At the end of the lesson, we test you on what you have learnt with a mini quiz. If you pass, you earn the week's certificate. These aspects of English are also taught within the online self-study course and again, there is a quiz to take at the end of the lesson. I also provide IELTS practice in English reading, writing, listening and speaking. We work through your IELTS exercise book, complete tasks and I mark your work, pointing out how you can further improve and gain even higher grades!
