I was born in England to South African parents who were studying there at the time. I came to South Africa when I was very young & have lived here all my life. My school achievements were very average & my time to shine came when I went to university. I initially qualified as a Social Worker, & then went on to complete Honours, Masters and PhD degrees in Psychology, and a Basic Adult Education and Training Certificate. My academic career in Psychology focused largely on my two specialist areas, Cognitive Psychology, & Research Design & Statistics.
I have 7 years of experience lecturing Psychology at residential universities.
I have about 7-8 years of experience lecturing a variety of subjects at private colleges. These subjects include Psychology, Business Statistics, Business English, Communication, Industrial Psychology, Sociology, Business Calculations.
I have worked full-time (6 years) and part-time from home teaching and tutoring in a large variety of subjects. A large focus here has been on Research Design and Statistics.
School experience has been one year in LSEN, another in Primary (all subjects except Zulu), & about 2 years in High School (Maths, HSS, Arts and Culture, and Life Orientation).
I have also taught aspects of the research process to other professions such as doctors, accountants & lawyers.
My last 9 years have been more broadly in Social Sciences (Politics, International Relations, Conflict Transformation & Peace Studies, Government, Business & Ethics, & Sociology), where I have been involved in academic support (study skills etc), lecturing, & postgraduate research supervision.
I do editing and data analysis (stats) and I currently tutor two LSEN children and am looking to expand. I also do counselling.
My qualifications are:
• B Soc Sc (Psychology, Social Work)
• B Soc Sc Honours (Psychology)
• M Soc Sc (Masters Psychology)
• PhD Psychology

People have different learning styles - some are visual - they need to SEE to learn, some are verbal - they need to HEAR to learn, and some are kinetic - the need to DO to learn. I tailor my approach to suit my clients.
I am very much 'hands-on' and believe in learning-by-doing. My teaching is practical and my learners complete tasks to facilitate their grasping of concepts. I do not believe that the same approach works for everyone and I am able to adjust my techniques accordingly. Read less
